Name: Bob Richter

Most memorable event at McBride: Survival - on the bus to and from school, in the halls (avoiding Bro. Davenport), and in class.

Learned to swim in the Wohl Center.

Going to basketball games.

All of our senior year was the best.

Who was the non-Brother English teacher who had the biggest college ring that the back of my head ever met? I can't remember his name to save my life.

Family: I had three younger brothers who also attended McBride; the youngest was there when the doors closed for the last time.

Married - my wedding 30th anniversary will be the Sunday of reunion weekend. Two grown kids, one married, no grandkids.

Still working - very jealous of all of you who've retired already, by the way.

What I do for fun: Golf, travel, family, not always in that order.

Most interesting trip: Besides the free trip to Vietnam compliments of the Navy?

I guess that would be a second visit to Hawaii for my 25th wedding anniversary (which occurred on "9-10").

Work: Taught one year at St Mary's - Algebra & Trig and Geometry. Bro Francis Haug hired me. Bro. Davenport was there, too. I was still scared of him even as a teacher.

Got drafted, so I joined the Navy to spite the draft board.

Started at General American Life in St Louis in 1973 to become an actuary. Never left St Louis, although General American is long-gone.

Now work for Great-West Healthcare, one of the successor companies to G.A. Never did become an actuary.

Name: David Duvall

What I do for fun: Today our life is all about the grandbabies. Our oldest is 6 while our youngest is 9 months. There's something about grandchildren that is indescribable that brings us an unbelievable amount of happiness.

Most interesting trip: Vietnam was pretty interesting. I wouldn't recommend it under the 1967 conditions though.

Work: I got into the conveyor and machinery design business with Alvey, Inc. in 1970 after a couple years with Emerson Electric designing machine gun parts for Lockheed aircraft. I moved to Chicago in 1977 and was a partner in a sales outfit called Palletizing Systems Inc. for the next 17 years. After a typical "partner falling-out issue" in 1994 I did engineering consulting for various large companies like Nestle and Quaker Oats. In 2000 we moved back to St. Louis to be closer to the kids and grandkids. A twist of fate brought me back to Alvey which had been purchased by FKI in 1999. I'm currently an engineer with FKI Logistex in Olivette, planning on retirement in 2008.

Comments: Your 40th anniversary celebration has engendered some good memories for me:

• many hours trying to depict American History to a captive audience;
• dear faculty friends who are no longer with us, like Bob Goodwin and Bob Godfrey;
• and, most of all, 750 able and talented young McBride men. You guys are special.

So, on this happy occasion, I extend to each of you a traditional Irish blessing:

“Until we meet again, may the good Lord hold each of you in the hollow of his hand.”

Best wishes and God bless you all.

Note: Unfortunately, Ray Davenport will not be able to join us because of health reasons. For anyone who would like to write to Ray Davenport, just email Bill Bradford and he will furnish you with his address in Iowa.

My wife however was not surprised – she has noticed that household chores have not been done for a long time. Signed, The Late Robert Buss.

The assassination of our president was another big tragedy which occurred in our sophomore year. The Watts riots in 1965 continued the decade of social turmoil. Name: Mike Brady

Email from Mike to Jack Fischer:

Jack Fischer:

So very good to hear from you. I am sorry that I am slow to respond to your first email.
We are on a whirlwind tour this summer. My parents, still living in Florissant, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June and our twin grandchildren in the Chicago area turned 5 yesterday the 10th (8/10). We are celebrating our son John's 23rd birthday today (8/11) and Gloria and my 35th wedding anniversary is tomorrow (8/12).

The 40th reunion, September 9th, sounds like a wonderful time. It would be terrific to spend some time again with all of my friends from "the formative years". Unfortunately we will be out of the country those dates. My wife Gloria and I have retired from working and live aboard our 41 ft sailboat "RESPITE". We have been traveling for two seasons, the first in the Bahamas and last year we sailed down the Caribbean chain of Islands and left our boat in Venezuela for the trip back to our daughter's house for the hurricane season. Unfortunately we fly back to Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela on the 7th of September. I regret the timing on this, I would change my plans if I possible, but I cannot.

Keep in touch and I will try to write again with more info to share.

Proud to be a Mick,
Mike Brady

Name: Tom Dalton

Most memorable event at McBride: Although it is hard to forget Thurlow Spurr and the Spurrlows, I remember a different event. The Statute of Limitations has run out on this, so I can now relate this story. Mike McGinnis and I were in the typing room one day after school. The radiators were disconnected for maintenance or something and we were messing around with the valves, but nothing happened. But, when Bro. Effinger came in the next morning, he found the whole room filled with steam! The boiler had come on during the night, and we had left the radiator valves OPEN. The steam had started to condense in the typewriters and they had begun to rust. It took Bro. Effinger a couple of days to get the moisture out of the machines and get the rust cleaned out of them. I don’t think they ever knew how it happened, and we didn’t tell them!

Family: I moved to Baltimore in '75 and was married for 17 years, but have been divorced for over 10 years. We adopted two babies: a girl from Honduras, and a boy from Brasil. They are 23 and 20 now. And my daughter has a 2 year old son, so that makes me a grandpa of one. I will be at the reunion, and will be glad to hear from anyone who won't be able to make it.

What I do for fun: For fun, on the weekends, I am a volunteer Engineer. Not the slide rule kind, the railroad kind. The Walkersville Southern is a full-sized tourist railroad that operates 4 miles of track, just east of Frederick Maryland. I have been there for four years and worked my way up to Engineer and now serve on the Board of Directors, too. Our website is WSRR.org if you want to check it out. A few months ago, I also got my Ham radio license, and I am just getting started playing around with that. I have a private pilot license, but I haven't been flying lately, it got too expensive.

Most interesting trip: My most interesting trip was in ’79. I was working as the electrician for Liza Minnelli on her world tour that year. We played one week in Sao Paulo, and one week in Rio, but the third week was the week of Carnaval, and the promoter put us up for free. And because we were with Liza, we had invitations to parties, costume balls, private yachts, and seats for the Samba School Parade. It was quite an experience, I liked it so much, I learned some Portuguese and went back a few years later to adopt my son from there.

Work: My career has been in show business in one form or another. During, and after college, I worked winters at the Repertory Theater in Webster Groves, and summers I worked at the Muny Opera. I worked as an electrician, sound man, and carpenter, and joined the stagehands union. The next few years, I toured with several Broadway shows and played all over this country, and in Europe and South America. After I got kids, I settled down to working as a video shooter and editor for a PBS TV station and later for Northrop Grumman Corporation, where I am now. I have also worked on several of the feature films and TV shows that have shot here in Baltimore.

Comments: I am not going to be able to attend the reunion.  I was really hoping I could.  My company is working on a project in Alaska, and the travel schedule did not permit me to be able to be there.  Hope you guys and wives have fun at the reunion.

Name: Tim Krull
Comments: I will not be able to make either the cocktail hour or the dinner next weekend.  I wish I could be but my youngest daughter is playing in a volleyball tournament that weekend.  Say hi to all the great Micks for me!

Name: Tony Migliazzo
Comments: Unfortunately, we will be unable to attend as we will be out of town.  You have done an excellent job with the web page!  I enjoy reading everyone's responses and check it frequently for updates.
I wish all you guys the best.  Have a great reunion.  I will be thinking about you guys that weekend.

Name: John “Sonny” Vitale
Comments: Sorry I can't make it but my late in life career as an Economics, Government, and History teacher doesn't make it easy to get away once school starts in the Fall...but it does sound like a lot of '66 Micks will be there considering we only had 139 graduates.

Name: Barry W. Kane
Comments: Hi; I am sorry to say that I will not be able to attend the reunion on these dates, as I will be unavailable, please accept my best wishes for a happy reunion!

Name: Kevin Dolan
Comments: Sorry, guys, just won’t be able to attend.

Name: Gary Berblinger

Most memorable event at McBride: The entire four years. From Thurlo Spur to the pep rallies in the alley, attending the varsity games, the dances and all of the other
activities. I even remember a few of the classes, if it wasn’t all good my fading memory has allowed me to forget the bad.

Family: Married to Mary Ellen for 38+ years, four adult children, two girls, two boys, the oldest three are married, five grandchildren, two boys and three girls. Our oldest son, Gary, lives with his wife and daughter near Aurora, Ill. Our older daughter May Beth lives with her husband and three children in Alice Springs, Australia. Susan our younger daughter lives with husband and daughter in Oceanside, Ca. Brian our youngest received his B.S. in Accounting from U of F in May and still lives in Gainesville, Fla.

What I do for fun: I am a bit of a news junkie and do quite a bit of reading, mostly
online. When not working or reading I enjoy gardening and playing with our two dachshunds. We also spend as much time as possible visiting the grandkids.

Most interesting trip: Most of our trips over the last 40 years have been to St. Louis
to visit family and friends. However with the children scattered about we have also been to such diverse garden spots as Omaha, Oklahoma City, Havelock, N.C., Honolulu and Baltimore and many places in between. We enjoy traveling by car so that we can stop and explore along the way.

Work: Received a BS in Accounting from St Louis U. and have been working as an accountant in various industries (primarily publishing) for several different employers, in several different cities. We moved from St. Louis to San Francisco Bay, to Southwest Ohio, back to St. Louis and then to Southwest Florida, where we spent the last eighteen years. In January of this year I accepted a position as Controller of a small daily newspaper in Park Hills and we moved to Farmington, Mo. where we hope to stay for a while.

Name: Rich Marcks

Most memorable event at McBride:
Stealey was right! It had to be beating CBC.

Family: Next month will be 25 years for Chris and me. We met on Capitol Hill in DC when I was working at the University of Maryland. She worked 8 years for the Secretary of the Treasury. Now running a Financial Planning business for Prudential. Chris introduced me to summers on Cape Cod and the National Seashore. What a fantastic place! Brian (19) is a sophomore at Middelbury College in Vermont. He is into football while planning for med school. Caroline (14) just started high school - very musical. We had the good fortune of being able to send them to JFK's alma mater - the Choate School, not far from where we live just outside of Hartford. Both are good students. I guess some of McBride rubbed off on them.

What I do for fun: Lots of time on the bike. I planned on giving Lance a challenge until he retired. Well, maybe that's a stretch. But earlier this summer I completed my first century - averaged 18.2 mph for the 100 miles. I hope to bike the Lewis & Clark Trail across Missouri someday. Anyone want to join me?

Most interesting trip: I don't know where I was going, or where I was coming from, but
it had to be the change of planes in O'Hare - was it 1967 or 1968? As I walked off the plane I ran into Dennis Halley. He was decked out in his Navy duds. Stationed at Great Lakes NAS I think. Do you rememeber that Dennis? Other than that it was probably visiting the Normandy beaches with my son on July 4, 2002. Chris & Caroline stayed behind in Paris shopping.

Work: After 15 years in education (U of Wisconsin, U of Kansas, and U of Maryland), Chris & I moved to Connecticut after Brian was born. She is from Western Massachusetts. Education did not work out, so I started taking actuarial exams. I became a Fellow in 1998. Worked for Aetna (7 years), then to Travelers (3 years) and now at the Connecticut Insurance Department (8 years). Jim Crotty & I must have spent some time at Aetna together - but did not know it at the time. We got together for dinner
when he was in Hartford a while back.

Name:
Larry Roy

Most memorable event at McBride: I remember most of the events already mentioned here, but it’s all such a blur now. I also remember hitch-hiking from south St Louis everyday, lugging those huge orange and green book bags around, playing pin games before school at the corner store, ice cream sandwiches in the cafeteria, comedy skits in Fitzsimmon’s class, organizing dances in the gym, Bob Kuban, Johnny Kay, Rosati Kain girls, Angora sweaters, English Leather, Bro. Ribbing patrolling the hood, Marty Milstead’s class, field trips, the horrible accident that took Dave Kempf’s father (I was in the back seat), retreats, listening to KMOX instead of language tapes in Bro. Schneider’s class, Parkmoor, the Prom, Graduation. Sorry about the run-on sentence, Bro Haug.

Family: I married Jo Becherer, (DuBourg H.S.) 38 years ago. We have two daughters and two sons, all moved out, and married off. Now we have six grandkids and one on the way, four girls and three boys. They are a joy!

What I do for fun: I’m retired now. We like visiting with the grandkids, traveling, and playing golf. I have several hobbies like photography and video productions.

Most interesting trip: We love beach vacations with the kids, but our most interesting
trip was to Austria, Germany, and Switzerland in 2000.

What I do for fun: Fun is my job, full-time lawyer defending employers and insurers on workers' compensation cases in a medium downtown law firm; and occassional trips to my father's family farm in southern Illinois; and Friday and Saturday nights reunion get-togethers were not only fun but a bit of a time trip, thoroughly enjoyable due to the excellent preparation by Bill, Jack, and their committee - thanks guys!

Work: I've practiced law since 1975 and I am a partner in my current firm.
